Empowering Girls Through Sport. Building Confidence, Health, and Gender Equality
At Girls in Motion, we believe that every girl deserves the right to play, thrive, and unlock her full potential through sport. Sport is more than a game—it is a catalyst for mental wellbeing, physical health, and social change.
There exists a persistent gap in India: while boys’ sports are encouraged, girls’ access to movement and play remains severely limited and especially in rural regions. Over 30% of Indian girls aged 8–18 report facing anxiety or mental health challenges, while only 16% have consistent access to physical activity at school. These inequalities undermine not just physical health, but future opportunity and self-belief.
What Drives us
We work across Madhya Pradesh and other states, partnering with schools serving girls from low-income farming families. Our holistic model supports girls aged 8–18 by providing:
School-based sports courts and safe play spaces
Training equipment and a new pair of trainers
Functional and culturally crafted sports uniforms
Qualified female coaches
Mental Health Officers
Nutritional screening for all students
Beyond skill building, our programs use team sports as pathways for girls to decompress, strengthen friendships, and develop confidence at every stage—before progressing to individual training. Comprehensive health checks enable us to respond to issues like anaemia, providing supplements where needed.
Our Approach
4,000 girls onboarded across three schools since 2023
Reductions in anaemia: Over 99% of participating girls showed significant improvement in anemia status within six months of receiving iron-fortified biscuits provided through our partners.
We observed encouraging progress in the timely onset of menstruation among girls who had previously experienced delayed menarche, supporting healthy adolescent development in alignment with medical guidance.
Participation has contributed to improved school attendance rates and a reduction in dropout rates in the schools involved.
By 2026, our target is to reach 20,000 girls. We measure success by physical health markers, self-reported wellbeing, and school progress.
Impact So Far
Much like our peers at Jindal Foundation, we believe rural and tribal talent deserves world-class opportunity and access. Sport bridges cultures, rebuilds self-esteem, and uplifts entire communities. Every contribution counts—help us build a future where sport is universal, inclusive, and transformative.
